Disfigure Refigure is an onsite multimedia installation exploring data ontology and the synthetic embodiment of the human form, particularly the face. It is comprised of a true three-dimensional display based on light subtraction on continuous topologies, a specialized facial detection software, and a custom interfaced wireless surveillance system with real-time spatial tracking capabilities. The system as a whole permits facial extraction and spatial reconstruction from a variety of media and digital formats. These include but are not limited to archival and historical footage, works of cinema, news, surveillance systems, virtual display loopbacks and live user/interface interaction. Every component of this installation is realized using open source software and hardware.
