Replica, Proxy, Exchange. is an amalgam of ritual, observance, and ambiguity, imagined initially in digital 3-D software. It was then physically realized with a precision error of ∼3cm, comprised of 8 bas-reliefs of deformed face masks, each continuously extruding from a square platform. Reliefs are suspended from a 13’ long bough of Ficus Retusa—an invasive, evergreen plant in the fig genus, artificially introduced through human intervention to southern California. As observers walk the space, their faces are mapped and projected on the reliefs, with the live feed coming from a consumer surveillance camera surreptitiously placed inside the bough.
